Cancer Can(‘t) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
Cancer Can(‘t) took root in my mind shortly after I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in the summer of 2020. Although previously a deeply private person, I agreed with my family that we could use help navigating the odyssey ahead and, therefore, shared my diagnosis with our families, our friends and our community.
The outpouring of support – in the form of messages, cards, gifts, meals and offers to run errands of every kind – was immediate and effusive . . . well beyond any possible hope or expectation. And, even as treatments became more protracted (due to health setbacks), the support was unwavering
Week after week I found myself thinking, “cancer CAN do so much harm – to our minds, our bodies, our relationships – but, for me, with my amazing support system, cancer CAN’T take away hope. And, with hope, cancer CAN create, not just destroy.
Although the meaning of the name Cancer Can(‘t) is not immediately clear to everyone, I hope the work that this organization will do in the future will give millions of adult cancer patients hope that cancer CAN’T defeat them but can inspire them to BELIEVE, FIGHT, HEAL and HELP other cancer patients do the same.
This means that 99% of the monies we raise are used to achieve Our Mission!
Kimberley Cohen is a board-certified laboratory animal veterinarian and lecturer currently working in academia. Dr. Cohen is honored to be a member of a dedicated community of veterinarians and technicians who work passionately to care for the animals used to develop life-saving therapies for both human and animal patients alike. She resides in northern Arizona with her 3 fur babies and tries to spend as much time in the great outdoors as possible.
Kelly is an attorney who focuses her practice on civil litigation, including: cases involving defective pharmaceutical drugs, medical devices, medical malpractice, civil rights and other personal injury cases. She lives in Connecticut with her husband, Justin (a cancer survivor) and their two children. She is passionate about lending support to those who have been diagnosed with cancer, as well as their loved ones. She has actively participated in many non-profit organizations, including Fred’s Team (through Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center), Team Boomer, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Jennifer is an insolvency Attorney whose eponymous firm focuses on debt elimination and asset preservation. She has helped many clients overcome mounting medical bills as well as navigate wrongful insurance denials and unethical medical billing practices. Jennifer passionately volunteers through the CT Veterans Legal Center offering reduced cost and pro bono services to our nation’s heroes. She also donates her time to PEHT, the Partnership to End Human Trafficking, and has developed an exclusive Financial Literacy Course for the organization that seeks to aid and empower women through financial education. When not working, Jennifer loves spending time with her husband, daughter, and 5 dogs – gardening, cooking, and working outside at their home in Connecticut.
Nicole is a litigation attorney by training and trade, currently focusing her practice on defective pharmaceutical drugs and medical devices. She finds balance on her family’s 20 acres in Connecticut, where she resides with her husband, three sons and dog, Moose. Throughout her life, charitable causes have been important to Nicole, especially those that support the United States military.
Bridget is a science teacher and instructional designer specializing in corporate training. When she isn’t busy raising three boys and helping to raise five cows, Bridget is very excited to help raise money and awareness for Cancer Can’t. Bridget and her husband Mark live in Middlebury, CT.
