Trace chemotherapy waste is material that has come into contact with or only contains a residual amount of a chemotherapy agent. Such trace waste includes drug bottles, IV bags, tubing, drug dispensing devices, syringes, gloves, gowns, masks, goggles and other disposable items used during the administration of chemotherapy.
Currently, trace chemotherapy waste MUST be incinerated. If you have had or been present for chemotherapy infusions, you know how much of this “trace” waste is created in a single treatment session, let alone on a daily basis, for every patient, in every hospital, worldwide.
Reducing the environmental impact of chemotherapy waste is an important mission of our organization. It is our goal to pair with scientists, lobbyists and other consultants in order to implement a plan for the reduction and recycling of “trace” chemotherapy waste.
